Bus accident kills 2, injures 6 in Jerusalem

Aug 12, 2022

Jerusalem [Israel], August 12: Two people were killed and six others injured after a bus in Jerusalem went out of control and crashed into a station on Thursday evening.
The two killed in the accident were a 30-year-old woman and a three-year-old girl, and one of the injured was in serious condition, according to the Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical service.
Policemen, firefighters and medical staff were sent to the site of the accident, local media reported.
The long working hours of the bus driver is to blame for the accident, said Israel's Bus Drivers' Union, adding the country faces a shortage of more than 5,000 drivers.
"The buses have turned into a ticking time bomb because of the growing shortage (of drivers). It is time for the heads of the Transportation Ministry to take this seriously. The drivers and passengers can no longer risk their lives," the union said in a statement.
This is the second accident as a result of bus malfunction in Jerusalem this week. A 70-year-old man was killed and a pedestrian slightly injured when a bus drove onto the pavement and smashed into a construction site on Tuesday night.
