Israel reports 20 new cases of monkeypox

Jun 28, 2022

Jerusalem [Israel], June 28: The Israeli Ministry of Health on Monday reported 20 new cases of monkeypox, bringing the total to 29 cases detected in the country so far.
The ministry's acting Spokeswoman Shira Solomon told Xinhua that one of the new infections is domestic, joining one previous infection that occurred within Israel, while the other 27 cases were infected abroad.
All of the 29 cases, which have been detected in Israel since May 21, are of men, according to the ministry.
It called on those who developed a fever and a blistering rash, or were in close contact with a person who is suspected of having monkeypox to see a doctor.
Monkeypox is common in wild animals like rodents and primates, but humans can also get infected with the virus.
Symptoms include skin rashes, fever, headache, muscle ache, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion.
The rash eventually forms a scab, which later falls off, indicating that the person is no longer infectious.
