Aug 09, 2022

Madrid [Spain], August 9: The high-speed AVE train service between Madrid and Barcelona was suspended for several hours on Monday morning, after the theft of around 600 meters of fiber optic cable.
The theft was reported by ADIF, the company that runs Spain's railway infrastructure, and seriously affected signaling, communications and protection systems on the line.
Services began to operate again with the line partially reopened at around 11:15 am local time (1015 GMT). However, there were still speed restrictions and delays as work continued on the system.
The Catalan regional police force, Mossos d'Esquadra, said it had arrested a 19-year-old man on charges of robbery with force and resisting arrest. The man was reportedly caught with part of the stolen cable, close to the town of Santa Oliva in northwest Spain. The police investigation is seeking to find out if the man was working with other people.
