Atalanta eliminates Cagliari in Coppa Italia

Jan 15, 2021

Rome (Italy), January 15: Cagliari's goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario provided a string of saves, but it was not enough to avoid a 3-1 defeat to Atalanta as the Dea moved on to the quarterfinal of the Coppa Italia on Thursday.
With 63 percent ball possession and 30 attempts, Atalanta broke the deadlock before the interval with Aleksei Miranchuk's left-footed volley.
Despite Riccardo Sottil's equalizer in the 54th minute, the home side restored the lead on the hour mark through Luis Muriel's angled drive, before Bosko Sutalo sealed the win from a corner.
Atalanta will face off against either Lazio or Parma in the quarter-final.
Also on Thursday, Serie B side SPAL stunned 10-man Sassuolo 2-0, setting up a clash with Juventus.
