France to increase nuclear power production

Apr 13, 2023

Paris [France], April 13:France wants to increase nuclear power production at its current 56 plants, newspaper Le Figaro reported on Wednesday. The government commissioned electricity company EDF and the nuclear safety authority ASN to examine whether the capacity of the plants, built between 1979 and 2002, can be increased, the paper reported.
French Energy Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher justified the step by pointing to the need for emissions-free energy production. The government expects an increase in output through technical adjustments in the operation of the power plants as well as shorter shutdowns for maintenance.
