Damascus [Syria], April 13: US troops captured an operative for the terrorist Islamic State militia and two of his associates in a helicopter raid in eastern Syria earlier this month, the US CENTCOM said on Wednesday. The comand said no civilians were killed or injured in the operation mounted late in the evening of April 8. "The capture of Hudayfah al-Yemeni, an [Islamic State] attack facilitator, and two of his associates will disrupt the organization's ability to plot and carry out operations," it added in a statement. "Operations against [Islamic State] are important for the security and stability of the region," said Colonel Joe Buccino, a CENTCOM spokesman. He added that Islamic State "remains a threat to the region and beyond - the group retains the capability to conduct operations in Iraq and Syria with a desire to strike beyond the Middle East, and its vile ideology remains a threat." Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at the time of the reported raid the Kurdish-led SDF and counterterrorism forces from Kurdistan carried out a joint security operation.(DPA)
