Portuguese economy "responds better than expected": PM

Oct 07, 2021

Lisbon (Portugal), October 7: Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa said on Wednesday that the Portuguese economy is "responding better than expected," which led to raising this year's growth forecasts to 4.6 percent and 5.5 percent for 2022.
According to him, the improvement came "as a result of the success of the measures that were adopted to sustain employment and the fact that unemployment has decreased much more than expected."
"This has been the great source of positive evolution of the economy," the Portuguese prime minister told the official television network RTP.
Portugal needs "to have public finances under control to be able to increase investment, improve the quality of public services and help improve household income," said the prime minister.
