15 policemen killed in suicide attack in north-western Pakistan: Officials

Islamabad [Pakistan], May 11: At least 15 policemen were killed in a powerful suicide attack on a security post in Pakistan's north-western province bordering Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday. The attack took place in Bannu district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province where terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a police check post, late night.
The attack was followed by intense gun battle. "At least 15 policemen have been killed," a regional police official said. Another three were wounded. Local media aired images of the attacked building, that was razed to rubble, with rescuers searching for bodies. The north-western region bordering Afghanistan has borne the brunt of militancy for decades and suffered persistent attacks. (DPA)
