Abdulrahman win sets up US Senate race with Republican nominee Rogers in Michigan

Aug 06, 2026

Washington [US], August 6: Abdelrahman El Sayed won the Democratic Party's nomination to run for the US Senate seat from the state of Michigan, setting up a contest against Republican candidate Mike Rogers in the election scheduled for next November.
The Michigan Senate seat is considered pivotal to Democrats' hopes of shifting the balance of power in the Senate. However, those prospects remain contingent on El Sayed, who is of Egyptian descent, uniting the Democratic Party's base in the state. El Sayed's victory, although by a narrow margin, marks a significant shift in the Democratic Party's politics. He campaigned on a platform advocating healthcare for all, an end to US military aid to Israel, and campaign finance reform. (QNA)
