Argentine midfielder Fernandez set for Atletico Mineiro move, says agent

Feb 17, 2021

Buenos Aires (Argentina) Feb 17: Brazilian giants Atletico Mineiro have reached a deal to sign Argentine midfielder Nacho Fernandez from River Plate, the player's agent said on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old is expected to travel to the southeastern Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte this week to complete a medical and sign a three-year contract for a reported fee of six million U.S. dollars.
"In the negotiations we had with [River], the club promised to sell him if the right offer came," agent Daniel Gonzalez told Argentina's TyC Sports television channel. "That's exactly what has happened and we're very grateful," he added.
Fernandez, whose contract with River had been due to expire in June 2023, has already bid farewell to teammates and coach Marcelo Gallardo.
Capped once for Argentina's national team, the playmaker has made 170 first-team appearances for River and scored 24 goals since joining the club from Gimnasia La Plata in 2016.
Gonzalez said Fernandez had left River on good terms, adding that he hoped to finish his career with the Buenos Aires club.
