Berlin [Germany], April 23: A video showing a police officer threatening to inflict pain on a climate protester has prompted an investigation into potential misconduct, Berlin police said on Saturday. A police spokeswoman said, "the entire content would be reviewed."A police tweet said the video depicted a "coercive measure by a colleague" at a climate protest on Thursday. The spokeswoman did not name the incident location.
Activists from the Last Generation protested in various locations in Berlin on Thursday. The video shows the officer threatening he would cause the activist pain "not just for today but for several days when you chew or swallow." The activist replies, "I'm sitting here peacefully, and you want to carry me away."
The officer counts down from 3 and starts lifting the activist off the street with a colleague, pulling his neck and chin. After a cut, the officers are shown wrenching the man's arm and carrying him off the street as the protester screams. Twitter users, including Last Generation, shared the video. The group has protested across Germany over 14 months, including efforts to block city traffic.
