Bandar Seri Begawan [Brunei], April 29: Brunei Darussalam's National Climate Change Committee (BNCCC) issued a directive on mandatory greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting, local daily Borneo Bulletin reported on Friday.
All facilities that emit and/or remove GHG, including government departments and private companies, will be required to report their GHG quarterly and annually starting this year, according to the report.
Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, minister at the Prime Minister's Office and second minister of finance and economy, launched the directive.
The minister said implementing the directive is critical to addressing the climate challenge and demonstrates the government's commitment to achieving transparency and accountability in line with the carbon inventory targets in Brunei Darussalam's National Climate Change Policy.
Brunei announced its 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution and commitment to reducing GHG emissions by 20 percent from business-as-usual levels to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 through energy transition and forest conservation.
