Cambodia, Thailand sign 11 agreements at extraordinary meeting

Phnom Penh [Cambodia], August 28: The extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) ended with an 11-point joint statement aimed at resolving all issues peacefully and avoiding conflicts between the two countries.
Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Commander of Thailand 's 2nd Army Region , said the meeting took place at the Chong Sa-ngam border checkpoint, Phu Sing district, Si Sa Key province on the morning of August 27.
The Thai side said the talks aimed to promote dialogue, build trust, reduce tensions and maintain peace along the border, emphasizing the use of all available mechanisms to resolve disagreements peacefully while maintaining neighborly relations and unity, according to the Bangkok Post .
According to the 11-point joint statement, the two sides agreed to maintain previous ceasefire decisions, enhance regular communication at all levels, and resolve issues peacefully to avoid conflicts. Both sides pledged to combat fake news and refrain from provocative actions or actions that escalate disputes.
In the 11-point joint statement, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the decisions agreed upon at the special meeting on July 28 and the extraordinary meeting of the Joint Border Committee (GBC) on August 7.
Thai and Cambodian officials also agreed not to expand the scope of the dispute or engage in provocative actions that could increase tensions, including inflammatory rhetoric or border violations, according to the Khmer Times .
In addition, Thailand and Cambodia recognized the need to implement practical safety measures, including patrols and infrastructure construction, as long as these activities are within national territory and comply with the terms of the ceasefire.
Thailand and Cambodia stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in various areas, with the common goal of restoring normalcy in bilateral relations. Both sides also reaffirmed the importance of humanitarian mine action and agreed to raise the issue at the upcoming GBC meeting.
Finally, Mr. Boonsin affirmed that Thailand's priority is to ensure peace and stability in the border area, as well as oppose any evidence of the use of landmines.
Meanwhile, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on August 27 welcomed the positive results of the extraordinary RBC meeting between the Cambodian and Thai armies.
On the same day, Cambodia also sent an official protest note to Thailand about Bangkok's continuous encroachment into border areas, especially areas where Cambodian civilians live. Thailand has not commented on this information.
