Canberra [Australia], October 11: The Australian government has said that chartered flights for evacuating Australian citizens from Lebanon will end on Sunday.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Thursday alerted Australians who have registered to leave Lebanon that no further assisted departure flights are scheduled beyond Sunday.
"There are still seats available for you to depart from Lebanon. These seats will be provided without charge. There are no further flights scheduled beyond Sunday October 13," it said.
"These flights remain subject to demand and security conditions on the ground. Do not wait. We may not be able to provide further flights to depart from Lebanon," it said.
As of Thursday, 1,988 Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family members had flown out of Lebanon, including on government-chartered flights from Beirut to Cyprus.
