Convoy bound for Gaza to return to Tunisia after eastern Libya block

Jun 17, 2025

Tunis [Tunisia], June 17: Activists with a convoy that was bound for Gaza have decided to return to Tunisia, after they were stranded in eastern Libya for days as authorities there blocked them from driving towards Egypt.
Organizers said that authorities in eastern Libya informed them that their request for permits was rejected by the Egyptian authorities. "We have decided to return to Tunisia and explore other ways to lift the siege on our people in the Gaza Strip," said organizers of the convoy, which took off from Tunisia last week.
They will only leave after securing the release of 13 people who are still detained by Libyan authorities. Last Monday, the convoy set off from Tunisia with around 1,700 people. As part of the Global March to Gaza, they were going to join other international activists in the Egyptian city of al-Arish in Sinai, then walk for about 50 kilometres to Egypt's Rafah border crossing with Gaza.
