France to invest 109 billion euros in AI

Paris [France], February 11: Speaking on France-2 television on February 9, French President Emmanuel Macron said the country will invest 109 billion euros (equivalent to 113 billion USD) in artificial intelligence (AI) projects.
The decision was made ahead of the AI ​​Action Summit taking place on February 10-11 in Paris with the participation of representatives from nearly 100 countries and global technology leaders, according to AFP.
President Emmanuel Macron said the money includes capital from the UAE, large investment funds from the US and Canada, and French telecommunications and electronics groups such as Illiad, Orange and Thales. According to Reuters, the UAE could invest 50 billion euros in AI in France, including building a 1 gigawatt data center, in the coming years. Meanwhile, Canadian fund Brookfield said it would invest 20 billion euros in France.
France is currently the world's fifth-largest power in the field of AI, with more than 1,000 startups in the field by 2024. Despite certain achievements, President Macron also admitted that the country is lagging behind the US and China.
