Aug 18, 2026

Sanaa [Yemen], August 18: The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen launched five ballistic missiles towards positions near the strategically important Bab Al-Mandeb, a Yemeni military source told DPA on Monday.
The source, who requested anonymity, said the missiles were launched from the southern Ibb province and the Al-Hawban area east of Taiz province toward positions near Bab Al-Mandeb. Government forces were still assessing whether the missiles had caused any damage, the source said.
The development came a day after government forces said the Houthis had targeted the city of Mokha, near Bab Al-Mandeb, with ballistic missiles and drones. The Bab Al-Mandab is a strategic strait connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, forming part of the shortest sea route between Asia and Europe via the Suez Canal. (DPA)
