Hungarian Prime Minister visits China to discuss Ukraine conflict

Budapest [Hungary], July 9: MTI news agency on July 8 quoted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as saying that he "highly appreciates" China's peace initiative regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
"It is very important for the Hungarian people that China promotes peace in the world ," he said. Writing on social network X, the leader said China was "a key force in creating peaceful conditions for the Russia-Ukraine war", and praised Beijing's peace initiative on the issue.
According to Xinhua, during the meeting on July 8, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Orban had an in-depth exchange of views on the Ukraine conflict. Mr. Orban informed about his recent visits to Ukraine and Russia. President Xi highly appreciated Prime Minister Orban's efforts in promoting a political solution to the Ukraine crisis and further explained China's relevant views and proposals.
Xi stressed that an early ceasefire and political settlement were in the interest of all sides, saying the priority was to cool down the situation. "China has been actively promoting peace talks in its own way, and encourages and supports all efforts that are conducive to resolving the crisis peacefully," Xi said.
The Hungarian Prime Minister's office said Mr. Orban will travel to Washington DC (USA) this week to attend the NATO Summit .
* In another development, RT recently quoted Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov as saying that BRICS members are working to create an independent financial system. The volume of Russia's transactions with other BRICS members, using their currencies, is constantly increasing.
Morgulov stressed that Russia-China trade turnover reached $ 240 billion and 92% of settlements are made in rubles and yuan. "We are leaving the space dominated by the dollar and developing mechanisms and tools for a truly independent financial system," the diplomat said. Although he said that the introduction of a common currency is still far away, he stressed that the group is "moving in this direction."
