Iran rejects third-party intervention for Strait of Hormuz mine clearance

Tehran [Iran], July 1: Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has said that "clearance of mines in the Strait of Hormuz is regulated by a relevant memorandum of understanding, and Tehran sees no need for third-party intervention."
This came after French President EmmanuelMacron said that "we have decided to collaborate jointly, in coordination with our partner, on de-mining the strait to secure maritime routes and ensure free and unconditional passage through the Strait of Hormuz".
Baghaei said there is no need for outside interference on issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it would only complicate matters.
He told reporters in Tehran that any intervention "will not be done with good intentions and will only lead to more complicated situations".
Baghaei added that the issue of mine clearance in the Strait of Hormuz is covered in the memorandum of understanding, and there is no need for others to intervene in the region on this matter.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the Iranian side has no plans to meet US officials "at any level in the next few days".
"What will probably be done in Doha tomorrow is a discussion on the implementation of clauses of the memorandum of understanding, including the clause related to the release of Iran's restricted assets with the Qatari parties," he said.
"Therefore, I emphasise that we have not planned any meeting with the American side at any level for the next few days," Baghaei added.
Iran had previously said it would send a technical delegation to Doha, focused on the implementation of an existing memorandum of understanding (MoU), including disputes over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and the release of $6bn in frozen Iranian assets.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also reiterated Tehran's stance on the war in Lebanon.
The US's commitment to ending the war on all fronts, especially in Lebanon, is important in line with the first paragraph of the memorandum of understanding, he said, speaking to reporters. "America must adhere to its commitments and, if necessary, force the Zionist regime to implement its commitments," Baghaei added.
"Our criterion for measuring America's adherence to its commitments is the text of the memorandum of understanding."
