Iran sets conditions for returning to negotiating table with US

Tehran [Iran], July 1: Yesterday (June 30), Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi stated the condition for his country to return to the negotiating table with the US: The White House must guarantee that it will not continue to attack Iran while negotiations are taking place.
In an interview with the BBC, Mr Takht-Ravanchi said that the Trump administration had told Iran through intermediaries that Washington wanted to resume negotiations. However, the US side did not clarify its position on the extremely important question: could the US once again bomb Iranian territory while the two sides are still in the process of discussion?
On the same day, President Trump denied information that he was in contact with Iran, and affirmed that he had not promised anything to the Tehran government.
In a related development, Mr. Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, declared that the country will never stop its nuclear enrichment program because the goal of possessing peaceful energy is allowed under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. "Nuclear enrichment is our right, a right that cannot be taken away, and we want to exercise that right," CBS News quoted Ambassador Iravani on June 29.
On the same day, June 30, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that the country could not guarantee the safety of UN inspectors. Shortly after, Britain, Germany and France issued a joint statement condemning the message as a threat to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi as well as the organization's inspectors. The countries called on Tehran to ensure the safety of inspectors on its territory, Reuters reported.
