Israel strikes Rafah after Hamas claims responsibility for the rocket attack

Tel Aviv [Israel], May 6: At least 19 people, including children and infants, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, after Hamas forces launched rockets at an Israeli base near the southern border crossing.
Three Israeli soldiers were killed in a rocket attack by Hamas forces near the city of Rafah , where Palestinian medical staff said at least 19 people died from Israeli air strikes on May 5, according to Reuters. on May 6.
Hamas's armed branch has claimed responsibility for firing rockets at the Kerem Shalom border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel, killing three Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli military recorded a total of 10 rockets fired from the direction of Rafah into the border gate in southern Gaza . After the attack, Israel blockaded this place, stopping the flow of aid into Gaza through Kerem Shalom.
Hamas confirmed that it launched rockets at an Israeli military base near the border gate, but did not reveal which direction the fire came from. The force's media branch said they had no intention of attacking the border gate.
Immediately after Hamas attacked, Israel immediately retaliated with an air strike on the city of Rafah, killing three people and injuring several others.
The Israeli military confirmed the retaliatory attack, saying its fighters launched missiles at Hamas's rocket launcher, as well as nearby "military structures".
Before midnight on May 5, Israel continued its air strikes on Rafah, killing 9 Palestinians, including a 6-month-old child. Gaza health officials said this attack raised the number of casualties on May 5 in Rafah to at least 19 people.
A total of 11 houses in Rafah were hit by Israeli missiles from the afternoon of May 5 to the early morning of May 6, according to Gaza officials.
In a related development, Al Jazeera Radio said that Israel has carried out at least 50 attacks against its journalists since the Gaza conflict broke out on October 7, 2023.
