Kenya confirms second Ebola case after first death

Oct 16, 2026

Nairobi [Kenya], October 16: The Kenyan Health Ministry on Wednesday confirmed a second case of the Ebola virus in the current outbreak raging in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The 39-year-old man is a close family member of the first confirmed case, who died of the disease in early October, the ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, the 39-year-old was under quarantine and daily observation when he developed symptoms on October 13. He was immediately isolated and then tested positive.
Because the patient was already in quarantine, his illness could be detected at an early stage. As a result, the man had hardly any contact with other people. Contact tracing for the first case is continuing, the ministry said. Of 128 people who had been in contact with the man who died of Ebola, 113 have been identified.
