Nov 01, 2025

Belgrade [Serbia], November 1: The first Belgrade World Scientific Conference gathered legal experts from more than 50 countries to discuss the future of international criminal law over the weekend.
The conference was opened on Thursday under the theme "Crossroads of International Criminal Law." Academics and legal experts attending the conference would focus on armed conflicts, military interventions, human rights violations, UN Security Council reform, and the role of the International Criminal Court.
Pino Arlacchi, Italian sociologist and former executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, told Xinhua that the conference aims to produce concrete proposals for "rebuilding the United Nations, reducing future conflicts, and creating a better world."
Sreto Nogo, secretary-general of the Serbian Association for International Criminal Law, underlined that international relations are increasingly influenced by power politics amid a deteriorating global order, adding that meaningful global reform requires China's participation.
The event, running through Nov. 2, is jointly organized by the International Forum on Crime and Criminal Law in the Global Era, a Beijing-based scientific platform, and the Serbian Association for International Criminal Law.
