Lithuanian president visits DHL cargo plane crash site in Vilnius

Riga [Latvia], November 26: Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda on Monday visited the site of the DHL cargo plane crash in Vilnius, which killed one person. Nauseda was joined by Germany's ambassador to the Baltic republic Cornelius Zimmermann and his Spanish colleague María Nieves Blanco Díaz.
They also spoke to local residents about the accident near Vilnius airport. The mayor of city, Valdas Benkunskas, had previously visited the site. The plane, which was flying on behalf of German logistics giant DHL, crashed in the early hours of Monday close to a residential building. The person who died was a Spanish crew member, according to police and rescue services. No one was harmed on the ground.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. So far, there are no indications that it was a case of sabotage or a terrorist attack. The cargo plane that took off from the eastern German city of Leipzig was operated by the Spanish airline Swift Air, DHL said as teams scoured the crash site for indications of the cause.
