Male singer faces backlash for livestreaming while drinking alcohol and using foul language

Feb 27, 2026

Hanoi [Vietnam], February 27: BTS member Jungkook is becoming the center of discussion after a late-night live broadcast in which he made several controversial statements and actions.
According to Starnewskorea, in the early hours of February 26th, the singer conducted a livestream lasting approximately 90 minutes on the fan interaction platform Weverse while under the influence of alcohol, surrounded by friends and his brother. During the broadcast, he candidly shared about his busy schedule leading up to BTS's comeback in March, and also revealed many personal thoughts.
Jungkook, whose full name is Jeon Jung Kook, mentioned his past smoking, saying, "I'm 30 years old now, can't I talk about cigarettes? I used to smoke a lot but I quit trying to change. If I talk about it more, the company will be unhappy again." The singer explained that these comments stemmed from his feelings while intoxicated and his desire to chat freely without worrying too much about what others thought. "This might be controversial, but that's who I am. No one can always be completely honest with the whole world," he expressed, adding that if he were a solo artist, he might say whatever he thought without hesitation.
During the broadcast, Jungkook repeatedly used foul language or raised his voice at his friends, sparking mixed reactions. When some viewers advised him to end the livestream, he responded, "Why tell me to turn it off? Don't tell me what to do."
The incident quickly sparked a wave of debate. Some fans defended them, arguing that it was just a normal moment for a mature artist in a relatively private space. However, many criticized the drinking and use of inappropriate language on a public platform as reckless, especially as BTS was preparing for a comeback after a long hiatus.
Afterward, Jungkook continued interacting on the Weverse community, reassuring fans about the upcoming album. He stated that the members and management company had put in a lot of effort for the new product, and affirmed that he was training and taking care of his health to avoid injury. In response to fans' encouragement, the singer replied that he would do his best and was grateful for being accepted even his imperfect aspects. The livestream video has since been removed.
According to plan, BTS will release their fifth studio album, titled ARIRANG, on March 20th. The following evening, the group is scheduled to hold an event at Gwanghwamun Square (Seoul, South Korea) to meet their fans.
