Man arrested following shooting at Oslo shopping centre

Jul 21, 2025

Copenhagen [Denmark], July 21: A suspect has been arrested in Norway after shots were fired at a busy shopping centre in Oslo a day earlier, police said on Sunday.
The man, aged between 20 and 30, had been previously known to police, Knut Lutro, head of investigations at Oslo police, said during a press conference on Sunday afternoon.
The suspect was taken into custody after he turned himself in, Lutro said.
The shots were fired at the Tveita shopping centre on Saturday. Lutro said it was too early to say whether the incident was related to organized crime.
He said the shooting occurred amid an escalating dispute between two groups.
However, at a planned meeting, a verbal altercation eventually turned into a violent brawl and a person pulled out a gun and fired several shoots, the detective said, stressing the motive was initially unclear.
A man aged between 40 and 50, who was also known to police, sustained gunshot wounds in the incident and is being treated in hospital, Lutro said, adding his condition was stable.
Both he and the suspected shooter are foreign nationals based in the region, according to the officer.
Meanwhile, an older woman was slightly injured in the panic that ensued amid the shooting.
The Tveita Senter shopping mall is one of the larger shopping centres in Oslo housing around 60 shops. It is located a few kilometres east of the city centre. The mall was temporarily closed following the incident to allow for evidence to be secured.
