Manchester City kick off Premier League campaign with win over Bournemouth

London [UK], August 24: Manchester City opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, securing late points in Matchweek 1.
The visitors took an early lead through Marcus Tavernier in the 25th minute, holding off Manchester City until late in the second half. Marc Guehi leveled the match in the 83rd minute before Joško Gvardiol sealed the victory for the hosts with an injury-time strike in the 90+1st minute.
In other Sunday Premier League action, Brighton & Hove Albion secured a dominant 4-0 home victory against Aston Villa at the American Express Stadium. Brighton led 4-0 by half-time following an own goal by Victor Lindelof (7'), a strike from Maxim De Cuyper (17'), and a double from Jack Hinshelwood (29', 30'). Aston Villa were reduced to 10 men in the 39th minute following a red card for Joao Gomes.
At St. James' Park, Newcastle United and Liverpool played to a 2-2 draw. Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 4th minute before Cody Gakpo equalized for Liverpool in the 54th. Joe Willock restored Newcastle's lead in the 56th minute, but Dominik Szoboszlai converted a penalty kick in the 90+8th minute to earn Liverpool a point.
