Meloni rejects criticism of weekend trip

Sep 10, 2025

Rome [Italy], September 10: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's weekend family trip to New York with her daughter has drawn accusations from political opponents that she is neglecting state business at home.
Meloni, head of the far-right Brothers of Italy party, dismissed the criticism, saying that she was merely fulfilling her "most natural" role as mother.
She spent the weekend in the US metropolis along with her daughter Ginevra, who has accompanied on official foreign trips in the past.
This time, they flew privately on a commercial flight.
Meloni described the weekend as an advance birthday present to Ginevra, who is about to turn 9.
Meloni separated from Ginevra's father, a television journalist, in 2023.
