Rabat [Morocco], March 6: Moroccan police have seized 4.3 tonnes of cannabis resin near the capital of Rabat, the official MAP news agency reported Wednesday.
The operation took place on Tuesday evening in the city of Temara, south of Rabat, following intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, Morocco's domestic intelligence service.
Five suspects, aged 24-50, were arrested for alleged links to a criminal network active in international drug and psychotropic substance smuggling, according to the MAP.
A judicial investigation has been launched to identify any potential accomplices and uncover the full extent of the network.
Morocco has increased its efforts to combat drug smuggling, especially cannabis resin, in recent years, working with European and other international partners.
