Washington [US], December 8: On December 7, the US Department of Justice issued new criminal charges against Mr. Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden.
The US Department of Justice accused Mr. Hunter Biden of not paying $1.4 million in taxes while spending millions of dollars on a lavish lifestyle, according to Reuters.
"The defendant engaged in a four-year scheme to fail to pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016-2019," the indictment reads. Also according to the indictment, Mr. Hunter Biden "spent millions of dollars on a lavish lifestyle instead of paying his tax bills." According to the indictment presented to the US federal court in California (USA), Mr. Hunter Biden faces 3 felonies and 6 misdemeanor tax crimes. Mr. Hunter Biden faces a maximum penalty of 17 years in prison if convicted, according to Reuters.
A spokesman for special prosecutor David Weiss, as well as Hunter Biden's attorney, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
