Moscow [Russia], October 2: Former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte (photo - 57 years old) yesterday officially took over the position of NATO Secretary General from Mr. Jens Stoltenberg at the organization's headquarters in Brussels (Belgium), according to AFP.
Mr Rutte said he was determined to prepare NATO for future challenges and that NATO must deliver on the promises it made to Ukraine to help it in its fight against Russia.
Mr. Rutte takes on the new role at a pivotal time, as the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues and just weeks before the US presidential election on November 5. The result of this election is considered the first major test for Mr. Rutte and will shape his first four-year term as NATO leader, according to AFP.
