Norway contributes 3.9 mln USD for food security in South Sudan, Haiti

Jul 12, 2025

Oslo [Norway], July 12: The Norwegian government is providing 40 million Norwegian kroner (approximately 3.9 million U.S. dollars) to support emergency humanitarian efforts by the World Food Programme (WFP) in South Sudan and Haiti, in response to growing food insecurity and humanitarian crises in both countries.
According to a press release on Friday, 25 million Norwegian kroner is being directed to emergency food assistance in South Sudan, where over half the population is suffering from hunger and food insecurity.
Norwegian humanitarian support for South Sudan so far this year has totaled 147.7 million Norwegian kroner, about half of which is channeled through the United Nations system and the Red Cross movement. The remaining funds support Norwegian humanitarian organizations.
In addition to the aid for South Sudan, Norway is allocating 15 million Norwegian kroner to WFP operations in Haiti, where escalating political unrest and violence have worsened the already dire food crisis. With this latest contribution, Norway's total planned humanitarian aid to Haiti in 2025 has amounted to 23 million Norwegian kroner, divided between the WFP and the Norwegian Red Cross.
