Polish parliament lifts immunity of ex-justice minister Ziobro over corruption charges

Nov 08, 2025

Warsaw [Poland], November 8: Poland's lower house of parliament, the Sejm, on Friday voted to lift the immunity of former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, paving the way for prosecutors to pursue corruption-related charges against him, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported.
Lawmakers also approved his detention and possible temporary arrest, with 244 votes in favor and 198 against. Prosecutors accuse Ziobro of misusing the Justice Fund, allegedly diverting multimillion-zloty grants to benefit associates and advance personal and political interests.
Ziobro, a senior figure in the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, served as justice minister from 2005 to 2007 and again from 2015 to 2023. He currently resides in Hungary and denies any wrongdoing.
