Residents return as large wildfire near Los Angeles is gradually contained

Aug 11, 2025

Washington [US], August 11: Authorities in California have issued a cautious all-clear in fire-stricken woodlands near Los Angeles as emergency workers gradually brought a large wildfire under control.
On Saturday, "significant progress" was made in extinguishing the fire, according to the fire protection agency.
The so-called Canyon Fire is now 47% contained and all people in the area are allowed to return to their homes, it said.
Damage assessment teams inspected most of the nearly 22 square kilometres of burned land, where two residential buildings and five uninhabited buildings were destroyed.
Emergency teams continued working overnight to secure residential areas and extinguish the remaining flames.
However, the fire risk remains high in the region, with temperatures of around 36 degrees Celsius expected on Sunday, according to the US Weather Service. (DPA)
