Rights experts accuse Venezuela's National Guard

Dec 12, 2025

Caracas [Venezuela], December 12: Human rights activists commissioned by the United Nations have accused the Venezuelan National Guard of serious crimes in its treatment of government opponents.
The independent experts directly implicated President Nicolas Maduro in the report commissioned by the UN Human Rights Council and released on Thursday. "The highly centralised chain of command - under the direction of the President of the Republic as Commander-in-Chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces - has facilitated the execution of unlawful actions without effective internal control mechanisms or accountability," the report said.
It accused the unit of the armed forces of committing human rights violations and crimes against humanity for more than a decade. (DPA)
