Sep 30, 2024

Cairo [Egypt], September 30: A senior official at the Arab League said that the United Arab Emirates plays a leading role in supporting and developing saline agriculture technologies as an effective means to combat desertification and restore degraded lands, especially in light of the challenges posed by climate change and water scarcity in the Arab world.
Dr. Mahmoud Fathallah, Director of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Meteorology at the Arab League, made the statements at the opening of a regional workshop held at the General Secretariat of the Arab League where he added that the UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, places significant emphasis on such technologies to help address issues related to water scarcity, increased food demand, and desertification.
The five-day workshop is organised as part of the G20 Global Initiative on Reducing Land Degradation and Enhancing Conservation of Terrestrial Habitats, which is based at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
