Singapore arrested 6 Vietnamese women suspected of having fake marriages

Singapore, June 8: According to the Singapore Immigration Authority (ICA), this group of 13 people on June 6 were charged with 1 to 12 crimes under the country's Immigration Act.
Vietnamese women include: Ngo Thi Thanh (28 years old), Hu Gia Phan (30 years old), Nguyen Thi Thuy Quyen (30 years old), Tran Ngoc Phuong Thao (31 years old), Nguyen Thi Minh Trang (32 years old ) and Nguyen Thu Giang (32 years old).
Of the 7 Singaporean men , 4 people, including Noel Teo Junwei (23 years old), Gan Jun Wei (25 years old), Melvin Tan Soon Kang (27 years old) and Lim Kian Keong (32 years old), are said to have received 8,000 SGD. (5,900 USD) to 18,000 SGD to participate in sham marriages. Two people named Jonathan Kwek Zi Hao (32 years old) and Teo Wei Jie (27 years old) are said to have received cash but the amount is unknown.
The other person, Javier Ang Kun Teng (26 years old), was charged with arranging three fake marriages, including cases involving the people mentioned above. Javier Ang was also accused of helping three Vietnamese women get visiting cards.
These 13 people were arrested on June 5. The case related to these people will be postponed until June 13. ICA said Singapore authorities launched an arrest campaign after investigating an organization accused of arranging fake marriages.
In Singapore, a person convicted of a sham marriage can be fined up to S$10,000 and/or imprisoned up to 10 years. In 2021 - 2023, Singaporean authorities arrested 18 people for this crime.
