Socialist Party leads in Albanian parliamentary elections: exit polls

Tirana [Albania], May 12: The ruling Socialist Party of Albania is leading in Albanian parliamentary elections, according to exit polls announced by Albanian media on Sunday.
The Socialist Party is expected to have 51.8 percent of the votes, against 38 percent of votes for the main opposition Democratic Party of Albania, according to the exit poll of Albanian Post.
According to the exit polls, the Socialist Party will likely hold 79 seats in the 140-member Albanian parliament following Sunday's election, the Democratic Party will likely hold 54 seats.
This election is Albanian first parliamentary election since the country formally opened accession negotiations with the European Union in July 2022.
The ruling Socialist Party of Albania, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, is running for a fourth consecutive term.
