Strong earthquake hits Indonesia

Jakarta [Indonesia], February 27: The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that a 6.1-magnitude earthquake occurred near the Indonesian island of Sulawesi at 6:55 a.m. on February 26 (local time).
The USGS added that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km with its epicenter offshore near Indonesia 's North Sulawesi province , according to AFP.
Indonesia's meteorological agency put the magnitude of the earthquake on the morning of February 26 at 6.0 on the Richter scale and confirmed that there was no possibility of a tsunami . However, the earthquake caused many residents to panic and run out of their homes; there was no information about damage or casualties.
