Stuttgart rout Wolfsburg 4-0 to boost top four hopes

Mar 02, 2026

Berlin [Germany], March 2:Jamie Leweling scored a brace as VfB Stuttgart underlined their Bundesliga top four ambitions again with a convincing 4-0 victory over second last Wolfsburg on Sunday.
Deniz Undav opened the scoring into the roof of the net from short range in the 21st after the ball fell kindly for the German international in a goalmouth scramble.
Leweling tapped the second at the far right post four minutes later and then fired into the top corner in the 42nd after an attempted Wolfsburg clearance. Nikolas Nartey wrapped up matters in stoppage time in off the post. Stuttgart drew level on points with third placed Hoffenheim and are five points ahead of RB Leipzig who visit SV Hamburg later on Sunday.
Bayer Leverkusen, who have a game in hand, are another point back.
A top four finish is needed to qualify for the next Champions League.
"We are playing great football," Leweling told streaming portal DAZN.
"Wolfsburg are at the bottom I thought there would be a bit more from them. But we did a good job and claimed a convincing victory." The 2009 champions Wolfsburg slipped to second last after Werder Bremen won on Saturday and they were too harmless in Stuttgart to get a result.
Eintracht Frankfurt meanwhile kept up their European hopes with a 2-0 victory over Freiburg who they leapfrogged into seventh place, six points behind Leverkusen. Seventh could be enough for a place in Europe in certain scenarios at the end of the season. Fares Chaibi scored into the bottom right corner in the 64th shortly after coming on and then set up Jean-Matteo Bahoya to fire high into the net from a left angle in the 81st.
