The governor of a province in Sudan declared a state of emergency due to a bloody attack on a bus station

Khartoum [Sudan], January 24: At least four people were killed and four wounded in southern Sudan today when gunmen opened fire on a bus station, prompting authorities in South Kordofan province to declare a month-long state of emergency, officials said.
According to them, the attack took place in the capital of the province, Kadugli.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred as the victims waited to be transported to an area controlled by a rebel group known as the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North, local media reported.
Acting provincial governor Musa Gaber Mahmoud called the attack "unfortunate" and vowed that local authorities would "spare no effort to re-establish security and stability" in South Kordofan.
Mahmoud also said the state of emergency came into effect today, across the province, which borders South Sudan.
The Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North controls large parts of the province, including the Nuba Mountains. This organization has been fighting against the government in Khartoum for decades.
A ceasefire was reached between the army and the rebels after the long-time leader Omar al-Bashir, who ruled Sudan with a firm hand for three decades, was overthrown in a popular uprising in April 2019.
After the interim government was removed by a military coup in October 2021, the entire country descended into chaos, and tensions arose between the two sides in South Korofan.
