Thousands battle diarrhoea, skin infections after Pakistan's floods

Sep 17, 2025

Islamabad [Pakistan], September 17: Nearly 1 million people have been infected by water-borne diseases in Pakistan's central and southern regions after catastrophic floods, officials and aid workers said on Tuesday, as water started receding after weeks of devastation.
As many as 473,149 people have been treated at the temporary medical camps set up by the national disaster agency in the provinces of Punjab and Sindh, a statement said.
More than half a million people, most with skin allergies, stomach ache, dysentery and diarrhoea were treated by charities, according to statistics compiled by Pakistan's biggest charity, Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF).
The death toll from the flooding that started in the northern Himalayan region in late June reached 998, as swollen rivers continued to overflow into villages in the central and southern plains, the disaster agency said. The floods have displaced nearly 3 million people. Most are staying at temporary relief camps and rely on aid for food, water and medicines, the agency added. (DPA)
