New York [US], February 25: On February 24th, director Truong Giang's film 'My Father's House Has One Room' was unexpectedly surpassed by 'Heavenly Treasure'. Meanwhile, 'Rabbit, Oh!' still far ahead of its competitors in terms of revenue that day.
On February 24th, the Vietnamese box office saw a change as " Heavenly Treasure" - a film project marking the reunion of Phuong Anh Dao and Tuan Tran - surpassed Truong Giang's project to reach second place with a revenue of 4.5 billion VND, equivalent to more than 60,000 tickets sold (according to data from Box Office Vietnam).
Previously, when discussing the competition in the Lunar New Year film race, director Le Thanh Son shared: "Everyone feels pressure. I make commercial films, and the first factor is revenue. As a director, I'm happy to see many Vietnamese films being released in theaters this Lunar New Year."
How did Truong Giang's film perform at the box office?
Meanwhile, director Truong Giang 's film "My Father's House, One Room" unexpectedly dropped from second place. With a revenue of 4.4 billion VND on February 24th, equivalent to over 58,000 tickets sold, the film marking the return of "Muoi Kho" (Truong Giang's nickname) ranked third among the four Lunar New Year films (as of 5:30 PM).
Recently, "My Dad's One-Room House" has sparked debate on social media. Many praised the film's message, while others criticized its storytelling as outdated compared to similar films released previously. However, the film has currently grossed over 89 billion VND, and joining the 100 billion VND club in the next few days seems achievable.
According to reports, "Thỏ ơi" (Oh, Little Rabbit) continues to lead the box office, far surpassing its competitors. On Box Office Vietnam, Tran Thanh's film grossed over 20.3 billion VND on February 24th. This brings its total revenue to 285 billion VND, projected to reach 300 billion VND tomorrow. Meanwhile, "Mùi phở" (The Scent of Pho) ranks fourth with a modest revenue of 1.02 billion VND, equivalent to 13,690 tickets sold.
It can be said that the competition among these four films has made the Lunar New Year film race more vibrant. According to Box Office Vietnam statistics, the Lunar New Year of the Horse saw significant growth, reaching 409.4 billion VND in 6 days, exceeding the sales of the same period of the Year of the Snake (306 billion VND in the first 6 days) by more than 33%.
Of these, "Thỏ ơi" (Oh, Little Rabbit) topped the box office, accounting for 56% of total revenue - earning power comparable to last year's "Bộ tứ bao thủ" (The Four Condor Heroes ). While Tran Thanh's film maintained its performance compared to last year, the films in second, third, and fourth place all showed significant growth compared to their respective positions in 2025.
"It's clear that, although Tran Thanh's film is still leading, other Vietnamese films are performing reasonably well. The drama surrounding screening schedules discussed on social media, in my personal opinion, doesn't affect audiences' decisions to go to the cinema," a representative from Box Office Vietnam assessed.
