Ukrainian and Russian apps were simultaneously attacked by hackers, issuing false alarms

Nov 02, 2026

Ukraine, November 2: the Ukrainian Air Force announced on November 1st that its air raid warning app had been hacked. According to Reuters, the app issued false warnings that the capital Kyiv and other areas were under threat of radiation and chemical weapons, as well as urban warfare. The warnings also stated that Russia had deployed Oreshnik hypersonic missiles.
The Ukrainian Air Force suggested the app may have been tampered with and asserted there was no radiation threat, urging the public to remain calm and follow updates from official sources. The false alarm was subsequently removed.
Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation later confirmed that the app had been temporarily disabled following a suspected cyberattack.
According to the Russian Telegram news channel Mash, a hacking group calling itself Hitcore has claimed responsibility for the intrusion. Mash reported that the hacking group said they tricked an employee of a Ukrainian company into gaining access to his computer.
Although Mash described the hacking group as Russian, the group had no prior known involvement in any cyberattacks. Moscow has consistently denied allegations of involvement in such activities, according to RT.
On the same day, the mobile application of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations became the target of a large-scale cyberattack , resulting in the dissemination of fake news to the public, TASS reported, citing a statement from the ministry.
Shortly afterward, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations launched an operation to fix the security vulnerability in the mobile application and restore its normal operation.
According to RT, the Russian State Statistics Agency (Rosstat) also recorded cyberattacks targeting its resources from October 29 to November 1.
