Suva [Fiji], April 18: The Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Ro Jone Kalouniwai says a man who presented himself during a joint security inquiry died after a sudden medical crisis.
In a press statement, the RFMF confirms four individuals voluntarily reported to Queen Elizabeth Barracks to assist with investigations into recent security breaches. During a formal interview, Jone Vakarisi suffered a medical crisis, with preliminary medical assessments suggesting a pre-existing condition.
The military says qualified personnel carried out immediate life-saving efforts on site but Vakarisi could not be revived.
The case has been referred to the Coroner's Office under the Inquests Act 1967. The RFMF says it regrets the loss of life. Three civilians have been released, while one military officer remains in custody for internal disciplinary investigations.
