Buenos Aires [Argentina], January 8: Venezuela's interim government declared seven days of national mourning for members of the military killed in a US attack on Caracas to arrest authoritarian leader Nicolas Maduro.
"I have decided to declare seven days of national mourning in honour and memory of the young women and men who sacrificed their lives in defence of Venezuela," acting President Delcy Rodríguez said on state television.
At least 24 Venezuelan soldiers were killed in the US attack, carried out early Saturday. "In memory: 24 stars were torn from our Bolivarian firmament by the cowardly hand of the empire," read the statement from the Venezuelan armed forces posted on Instagram on Tuesday, with photos of the deceased men and women published alongside.
