Venezuela starts training civilians to fight US in event of an attack

Mexico City [Mexico], September 22: The Venezuelan government is training civilians on how to use weapons to defend the country in the event of a US attack.
Under the slogan "The barracks go to the people," soldiers have conducted the first training sessions in various parts of the country, President Nicolas Maduro said on Saturday.
He called on Venezuelan farmers to be prepared and, if necessary, to take up arms en masse.
"The Venezuelan people say to the empire: Stop the threats!" Maduro told farmers at a gathering.
He claimed that while the United States threatens Venezuela, the South American country is more united than ever in defending its sovereignty.
Just a few days ago, Venezuela launched a large-scale military exercise in the Caribbean amid growing tensions with the United States.
Relations tense In recent weeks, the US military has attacked what it says were several drug-trafficking boats in waters south of the US, killing multiple people.
