Vietnam landslide buries van, kills 12

Jul 14, 2024

Hanoi [Vietnam], July 14: Twelve people were killed and four were injured when a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall buried a 16-seater van, Vietnamese local authorities said on Saturday.
A landslide occurred suddenly early on Saturday morning, trapping a Ford Transit van and its 16 occupants in mud.
All of the van's passengers were able to get out of the vehicle with the help of three people from a seven-seater car. They were trying to push the vehicle that was stuck in the mud when the mountainside suddenly collapsed, bringing thousands of cubic metres of earth and debris onto the road and burying all of them, the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control said.
The bodies of the 12 victims were recovered by late Saturday afternoon, while the four who were injured, are being treated at Ha Giang Provincial General Hospital. (DPA)
