Wildfires spread in Canada

May 30, 2025

Ottawa [Canada], May 30: The Canadian province of Manitoba declared a state of emergency on May 28 and urged many people in the northern and western regions of the province to evacuate, amid widespread wildfires.
Reuters quoted Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew as calling for 17,000 people to evacuate immediately, asking Prime Minister Mark Carney to deploy the military to help with evacuations and firefighting. According to Mr. Kinew, this is the largest evacuation ever in Manitoba and requires significant resources. There are up to 22 wildfires in this province and Mr. Kinew said this is a sign of climate change that everyone must adapt to.
In Alberta, wildfires have forced oil and gas production to halt and residents of a small town to evacuate. Canada is currently battling 134 wildfires in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, half of which are out of control.
