Workplace accidents up over 40 pct in Italy

Aug 31, 2022

Rome [Italy], August 31:Workplace accidents in Italy, some with a fatal outcome, grew by more than 40 percent over the first seven months of the year, the government's main entity tracking worker safety reported Tuesday.
Italy's National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL) said it recorded some 441,451 workplace accidents between January and July, an increase of 41.1 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
That coincided with an increase in the number of workers doing their jobs on site after COVID-19 restrictions in place in 2020 and 2021 began to be lifted last year. During the pandemic, the percentage of Italian workers who switched at least partially to at-home working grew substantially.
Despite the increase in worker accidents reported for the first seven months, the number of accidents resulting in deaths over that period decreased 16 percent to 569.
